perfect timing.

** disclaimer: i apologize in advance for these stories being about [R's] bowel movements. but i know i'll want to remember these stories later! hopefully ya'll be just as entertained as we are by these.

changing her diaper yesterday, i pulled off the old diaper and was looking into her eyes and talking while opening the new one. of course she's just smiling and cooing at me. i went to lift her up her bum when i noticed her entire back was soaking! like hair and everything. sure enough while i was busy cooing over her and having a special moment, she took the opportunity to take a free-pee. i mean who doesn't want to?! but she was most definitely smiling because of the joke she was pulling on me, not because i'm that fun. perfect timing, little one.

^^ those arms and belly though...

eating: these days,  i can't get enough salad, strawberries and nectarines. poor secret is like "where's the meat!? where's the pasta?!" (nowhere to be seen; except for the occasional chicken breast). i think it's because of this veggie overload [R] has been exceptionally flatulent lately. when we're not making her smile, chances are she's smiling because she's tooting.

there i was just sitting doing my make-up when out of no where, she lets one rip! unfortunately for her, it was loud enough that it woke her up from her light slumber and sent her into hysterics- hands flailing, eyes wide! it's not often that you toot loud enough to scare yourself. well done little one!

this sweet sister was teaching our lesson yesterday in church and she gets to a point and asks "does anyone have a thought on that"? before anyone could answer and while it was still silent, [R] let's a hot tub jet go off (that's what we call the long, bubbly ones [sorry for the graphics]). and it was not quiet. everyone turned around and just started laughing! i was just so embarrassed i had to apologize to the teacher- but seriously, of course it's my child that disrupts class. perfect timing, little one. just perfect.

OKAY: now: life lately:

last week our street was all blocked off for a couple of days and i had no idea why (i was hoping it was because of a future farmers market [it was actually the opposite of a farmers market]). [R] and i happened to be leaving the house just at the right moment to see hoards of people lining our street, only to find out the president was coming. grrrrrrrrreat, now i can't get to the grocery store because this big guy is going to drive down the street. well after waiting for 20 minutes, he finally came (it was literally a drive-by), but i'll admit: it was pretty cool. the 40+ motorcycle group that preceded his limo was intense; as were the snipers hanging out the backs of every other car in his group. [R] found the entire thing to be just riveting.

this week i felt a little crazy and i pushed us to stay out past 8pm... i know, we're so crazy. but i'm glad we did! because.... it's FIREFLY season!!! no, east coasters, i will not "cool my jets", to us west coasters this is a novelty that is to be 100% enjoyed to the fullest. so after our picnic in central park, we tried to collect some fireflies in the water bottle... they were smarter than that. BUT if you ever need a bug caught, ask secret. he can catch ANY flying bug (even a fly) with ONE HAND in mid-air. he is so weird.

my child is such a ham. i'll just leave it at that. seriously though, i just pull out the camera and she's like "ooooh, selfie time!" we're doomed.

grandma sent her these books and she loves them! it must be the bright colors and animals (or maybe the fact that my animal noises are disgraceful...), but she is all smiles when we read. but notice how her outfit has been changed merely minutes later. that toot got away from us.....

we've been out walking lots this week! this time we stopped at a splash pad. fun, fun, right??  and it was so blazing hot outside i decided to stick her toes in the water.... HAHAHA! she hated that more than the time she got kicked out of the womb. other moms were like "omg. that is a terrible mom. forcing her baby to get her toes wet... like omg. omg." and then somebody threw a dirty diaper at me.

no not really. but i got out of there quick before anyone had the chance.

one more minute on the bottle and then BAM: serious guns.

now here we are to another monday. SERIOUSLY, guys!? is time flying by anywhere else? i just feel like yesterday was monday. it happens too fast. this week we have to go get secret's birthday presents.... oh boy! someone has a big day coming up!! hip-hip-horray!

have a great week everyone! [R] sends her regards;)

a bath, a burger, & a baby.

*** WARNING: overload of pictures. we won't be offended if it's a turn off! we just love our little family and want to document EVERY moment:)

notable moments this week:

{R} LOVES bath time. actually it's sort of hard to tell what her "love level" actually is, because newborns are hard to read. BUT she sure looks like she loves it! in fact, she loves it so much she has a hard time controlling her bowels when she's in the tub.. it always makes for a very eventful bath time!

we also tried feeding her a 4oz bottle this week. we weren't sure if she'd be able to take the full 4 oz, nor did we expect her to. but 20 minutes later she had pounded the entire thing and was ready for a good burping. sweet secret was eager and ready to go! he put her on his shoulder and not a moment later a waterfall of breastmilk came flowing out of her mouth! he was sitting on the couch and leaned forward- but not soon enough! it flowed down the back of the couch and down his back... and down even further. it was quite the event! and thus we see {R} is not ready for 4oz yet:/

this past week we had the blessing of being able to spend lots of time at the metropolitan museum of art (MET). it's fairly easy doing these museums with newborns- they sleep the entire time and it's a super peaceful environment. it was fun to watch {R} get attention from everyone! we got a lot of comments like "what a cultured child", "start em' young", "what a work of art" (most clever compliment considering we were in an art museum)! p.s. don't take your newborn into the ladies room, that's where they get the MOST attention. at one point she had 5 old women huddled around her stroller cooing and tickling her feet. those 5 women just attracted more women and it turned into a 15 minute affair.

well, the 4th of july has always been one of my favorite holidays (only competing with christmas, of course), but this year we did not want to fight the crowds downtown to see the fireworks. although they are very impressive, (davis high, you have a serious competitor over here), it just didn't seem like a good idea with the little one! not yet, at least! but i didn't want to end the day without a little bit of patriotism: so we went for a walk in central park, picked up some burgers, and sang some neil diamond (seriously, there is NO other song that fits the 4th better. don't even argue). i was rebuked by secret for not wearing my red, white, and blue, but {R} got it covered for our family this year!

(no the shoes didn't fit.. haha we just couldn't resist [by we = mom])

the past week {R} has been having a slight tangle with colic. and as a result this was the first week i sort of felt like i looked... exhausted. i've been pretty good energy wise up until this week, but sweet, little one has had a rough couple of days and i'm finally feeling it. BUT not to worry! when i'm not cuddling her or kissing her, i'm taking pictures and enjoying every little moment between the crying.

(this was taken a week ago when this onsie was slightly too big. now it fits just right! how do they grow so fast?!)

(these past two pictures were taken during her only nap yesterday [yeah, yikes]. but we laughed and laughed at this last picture! our caption said: whoa guys, you're bouncing me too fast. i said medium speed.
but we want to hear your captions!!)

(nothing like being the mamma everyone gets to sleep on:)

to spread out the responsibility and to give everyones arm a rest, secret usually burps when i'm done feeding her. he has a super comfortable shoulder as {R} is demonstrating. she LOVES his shoulder.

it's getting blistery hot here in the city. so we find ourselves only going out in the morning and spending the rest of the day inside until it cools down again. i was telling secret how my idea of time has change now that i have a little one. there was one morning when {R} woke up at 5:45 and was almost hysterical and i thought "maybe we should go walk in central park". that thought would've never crossed my mind a month ago... not until 8am, at the earliest!

but to escape the cars, stop lights, and smokers we go to the park! we go almost every morning and so far its been a great blessing to my sanity:) i might go crazy staying indoors all day...

today we went at 8:45. it's not 5:45, but it's the earliest we've ever gone. who knows, maybe tomorrow will be a 5:45 day :/

(i know i look exhausted.. haha! i'm really fine. it probably doesn't help that I'm going easy on the make-up these days.)

with the morning sun streaming through my windows, i couldn't resist a little photo shoot...

lots of love to our family (specifically grandparents and great-grandparents), and friends, and all those who are rooting for us! being new parents is so much easier when you have such a great support network:) wherever you are, enjoy your sunday!!
