so much popcorn.

there's this children's song that says:

i looked out the window and what did i see,
popcorn popping on the apricot tree...

and then it continues to talk about all the 'popcorn' and all the things you can do with it. but of course, as kids you had no idea what the heck popcorn was doing on the tree, and you didn't bother to ask.

>>> well, this is what it means...

if you've ever thought about going to DC for the cherry blossom festival, let me give you the inside scoop.

FIRST, remember when we were supposed to go to the festival last year? if not you can refresh your memory here. so of course, i was PUMPED to go this year and it proved fruitful.

>> so if you think you're the only ones going to see the blossoms, you're wrong. i thought for sure we'd be the only ones skipping around in the fields of flowers (..scoffs..), boy was i wrong. you're probably one among 10,000's... dare i say 100,000's??

>>> BUT lifehack #303: if you get there on friday, you beat a lot of the locals coming out to see everything, so you get a little bit more space. but just a little bit.

>> then SATURDAY hits. and everyone loves the idea of coming out to the mall and enjoying the stench of cherry blossoms (that's true, they don't smell like perfume...) and the sound of flapping kites in the air. and although crazy, it was quite pleasant. so yes i do enjoy the stench.

>>> remiford doing a little ad for almonds. encouraging you to eat them for their healthy fats.

>>> PSA: if you are walking on a crowded sidewalk/path and you feel the need to:
a) tie your shoe
b) take a picture
c) tend to your child
d) just stand there looking lost
e) take a lick of your popsicle
f) reunite with a long lost friend
g) all of the above
h) any other event that might cause your feet to stop working

move over to the side of the pathway so others can get by. no, i know what you're thinking,"oh good grief, this woman is being such a snotty new yorker." but am i really??? after talking to some people NOT FROM NY i KNOW that it is not a NY thing. ANYONE EVERYWHERE hates having people just stop right in front of them only to veer to the left to avoid a collision. and doing that with a stroller takes 110% concentration. (and sometimes i don't have that. so sorry [not sorry] i just gave you a flat tire...)

>>> fun fact: this guy right here, our favorite president, mr. abraham lincoln, and i are related. yes, yes, yes, it's true. his mother's maiden name was hanks, and so was mine. and although you may think this is just a coincidence, it's not, because we really are relatives. don't ask how though because i don't remember... but do you see the resemblance?? (secret said, "i hope not..." haha.)

well district of colombia, it's been nice, but sundays call for a change of pace and that means a little jaunt in GEORGETOWN.

badabingbadaboom, and just like that, we're there.

>>> do you know why she's smiling? because she's watching secret put a bite of cupcake in his mouth and she wants some. have you heard of baked & wired? although a HUGE fan of georgetown cupcake, these guys quickly becoming a rival. b&w is a little bit "abrasive" for me... some of the names of the cupcakes are crude, which i think are unnecessary. but DANG they are good cupcakes. thank goodness they are a solid 4 hours away from me.

>>> and there, like every other LDS temple in the world, it stands as a beacon of truth and happiness for the world. perfect way to start our drive home. once again, the LDS church nails it.

>>> her first ride in the swing was at a little beach on chesapeake bay. isn't that just charming?

so there you have it. will we do that crazy weekend again next year?... probably not (secret says "definitely not"). BUT we encourage everyone to do it at least once because it really is "such a nice surprise."
