so therefore, let us commence with the love/hate characteristics of our city.
i LOVE that everything is so convenient. if we need to go to the grocery store, we can be there and back in 13 minutes. no carseats, no parking, nothing. it's awesome.
i LOVE that our village consists of people who we see everyday in the park walking their dogs. the lady who feeds the pigeons, the MTA worker that opens the gate for us, the crossing guard. all of them we love and they are essential to our happiness here.
i HATE the intensity of the seasons. honestly 3/4 are totally fine and bearable, but winter JUST SUCKS. it's so hard. no one is in a good mood, everything is harder to do and it's hard leaving the apartment just to get slapped in the face with an icicle. (so i'll try to remember NYC like this >>)
i LOVE our neighborhood subway line, but HATE the rest of it. why are there stalagmites of dirt hanging from the ceilings? why are the platforms so small? why is there always a fresh puddle of pee in the elevators? and why aren't there more elevators?? bumping my stroller up all those stairs is ANNOYING.
i LOVE the offerings this city has for kids. so many playgrounds, museums, open spaces. that's nice.
and i LOVE central park. that's the heart of this city if you ask me.
i LOVE how the city loves kids. but really it's the people who find them novel and darling that are so great. when either of these two zoom past on their scooters i get so many smiles and laughs. i love it.
but i HATE the filth and dog poop. i vote to use a hefty percentage of our tax payer dollars to invest in some solid power washers that are used regularly on the streets and subways. i'm an expert at avoiding dog poop, but when i miss it, oh i hate it.
i HATE the people who give NYers their rep. the other day my extremely heavy stroller took a weird bump and knicked the heels of a old upper east sider. she literally turned around and yelled "WATCH IT!!!!" and i quickly apologized, and someone next to me started laughing and said "you didn't even need to apologize... but nice of you anyway!" haha. i wish i could say this was a first, but it's not, some people ARE SO DUMB. i won't miss that.
i LOVE the many views this city has to offer. they really can be breathtaking.
i LOVE the thousands of fun places to eat. i always miss that when visiting other cities.
i also LOVE that people who love kids want them to love NYC like adults do. (and i do realize i overused "love" in that last sentence.) we were just walking past the fire station and these firemen said "hey, you kids wanna hop in?" i've taught them never to get in a strangers car, but i figured this was an exception.
yeah, remember those germs i was talking about earlier?! well i STILL HATE them, and this fountain had loads of weird algae in it.. but they were in before i could stop them. get those power washers, NYC, i promise you won't regret it.
i HATE the lack of space. it's terrible to tell my kids to stop running because it annoys the "downstairs neighbors." i don't like putting sam in the extra closet because his crying wakes up the neighbors and remzer. it would be so much better if i could just put him in his own room. can i have that one day please?
i HATE having to rent a car anytime we want to leave the city. and the fact i can't afford to have one here (it's $700 a month just to park it) just seems unfair. they should rethink that.
but i do LOVE the adventures you have to offer outside of the city. the east coast is so beautiful.
but let's get real, the things i love outweigh the things i hate. when we saw the rockettes a few weeks ago i just started sobbing at the "NY at Christmas" number. granted, i was just coming off that time of month, but still, i just love it so.
also, please note the women 3 pictures up who are wearing "germ masks"... lol there are a lot of those here, but i have yet to find a leopard print bedazzled one for myself. so oh well.
